Eight Months of Nutmeg!

WOW! She's nine months old today. Which means that tonight I will be desperately looking around for a white onesie that fits her, and then (I hope) snapping a bunch of photos.

But, as a history lesson, in the month leading up to her eighth mesaversary, Nutmeg acquired two teeth. See?

She also started eating foods--mostly fruits and veggies, but some cereal, too.

Sweet potatoes=yes
Green beans=no
carrots=yes
green beans=no
prunes=heck, YES!
green beans=NO, NO, NO.

Green beans dipped in prunes?...
YES.

(We refused to waste the green beans).

She went on her first boat ride, got really good at playing with a sparkly ball, and continued to scrunch up her nose when she's really happy. We call it the "nose crunch." As in, "OOOooh, Bud! You got a nose crunch from Nutmeg! She LOVED that!"

We're definitely keeping her.

Almost, but not quite, a nose crunch

Tooth #4

Bud lost another tooth recently. He looooves showing the gap.

This time around, he even let the tooth fairy take it!

Back to School

We are embarking on our fourth week of school. Overall, it's been lovely. I am loving our new curriculum (Sonlight!), and am happy with some other switches we've made (no more Saxon math for Bud...because what good does it do being a math genius if you're so BORED that you HATE it? And I mean, we were both bored).

**Update: I didn't mean to imply that there were math geniuses at our house...just that Saxon tends to create math geniuses. Unfortunately, I think it often creates math geniuses who hate math. Sloppy thinking! Sloppy writing! But that's what I meant.**

But I just wanted to share some back-to--school photos. Because.

Can you believe it? A third grader! (which means I've been doing this for four years. Yikes.)

Quote: "School is different for me. I have spelling and stuff."

And oh, my. We're having sweet times, although my biggest challenge this year is turning out to be making sure this sweet pre-k'er doesn't get lost in the shuffle.

Not that he would ever make that easy, mind you.

Happy back-To-School, everyone!

Conflicted

Or maybe he's not. Somehow, in Wombles, the best all seems to come together without conflict.

Oh, that that could be the case on the FIELD! UGHHH!

Happy Sunday,
H

Nutmeg Learns to Dance!

OK, Last night J told me that it was time to move on from the fruit bat. And my Mimi called and said, "You're falling BEHIND on your blog!"

We're in the middle of our school week, things are cooking along, and it's time for me to play hopscotch and Candyland (uuggghhhh) with Wombles while Bud and Pixie are away at Chinese for 45 minutes. But I give you Nutmeg's newest trick as a temporizing measure. Or tempo-izing?

I walked past and she was bopping to the music!

This song is the first of a playlist of "happy music" for me, and she just made it better.

Fruit Bat

We often refer to Wombles as our "fruit bat." He love love loves fruit, and will eat it first.

At the park on Friday, our friend Sarah brought cherries for the kids to have for a snack.

'Nuff said.

My Seven-Month-Old Babies

So...

Nutmeg will be eight months old tomorrow.

And I will be taking those photos with my new camera...my happy birthday + merry christmas + happy anniversary camera from Jesse. It came a little early because I really wanted to take cute pictures of baby feet, and he sympathized. And he loves me. And he understands that 8-month old baby feet just aren't the same as year-old baby feet.

Anyway, here's a photo of Nutmeg at seven months...thirty days ago:

I'm guessing no-one noticed I was running behind, since her six-month shots showed up nearly a month late, too.

And here's Wombles at 7.5 months, because I didn't get around to taking his seven-month onesie shots until two weeks later:

And here's Bud at seven months, appropriately startled by my casual relationship with deadlines in particular and linear time in general:

(He's the only one of the four who came right on time on his due date.)

Month seven was a big one for Nutmeg:
  • She had a reunion with her two bff cousins from Georgia and took her first +12 hour road trip.
  • She started eating pureed fruits and vegetables, but wasn't crazy about many of them.
  • She kicked personal travel into high gear, rolling to get where she wanted to go (no crawling, yet).
  • She loved her big brothers and sister, and gives them huge grins when she sees them.
  • She started sharing a room with Pixie.
  • She remains incredibly cheerful!!
